What we do
MNTB activities include:
Identifying skill needs in the industry and how they can be achieved;
developing and maintaining National Occupational Standards for marine operations, shore based ship management and maritime hospitality management;
developing, maintaining and approving seafarer education and training programmes, mandatory and industry agreed courses;
publishing training information, including Training Record Books and Workshop Skills booklets as part of the approved programmes followed by all new officer trainee entrants to the industry;
promoting careers in the Merchant Navy and shore-based ship management, and linking into wider maritime sector careers promotion through the Sea Vision campaign;
managing the Merchant Navy Training Provider (MNTP) to ensure unemployed seafarers are able to access government funding for continuing training and certification;
managing the Chamber of Shipping’s annual safety competition and prize-giving ceremony;
working with the Maritime Skills Alliance (MSA) for UK maritime skills development purposes
