Our Board Members

The work of the MNTB is overseen by a board made up of representatives of shipping companies, seafarer unions, maritime educational establishments and interests, and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The Department for Transport and the Maritime Skills Alliance are also represented on the Board

The Board's Chairman is Commodore David Squire, CBE, FNI, FCMI.

Commodore David Squire

Commodore David Squire is a Master Mariner and experienced senior manager.

Since his retirement from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, in 1999, David has remained active in the maritime world, through his membership of the Nautical Institute’s Papers and Technical Committee; as a member of Council and of the Operations Committee of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution; and as a Trinity House Navigational Examiner.

David is the editor of Alert!, the award-winning International Maritime Human Element Bulletin, and the general secretary to the Marine Accident Investigators’ International Forum (MAIIF).

As an Elder Brother of Trinity House David is the Director of Maritime Training responsible for the Trinity House Merchant Navy Scholarship Scheme; and for the Professional Yachtsman Bursary Scheme.
