Course Criteria
The MNTB, in conjunction with the MCA has developed the criteria on specifications for approval of training required by the IMO Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) as amended in 1995 and the International Ship and port Facility Security (ISPS) Code 2003 Edition. In addition, course criteria have been developed for non-mandatory courses that meet specific industry needs.
The criteria are contained in a series of booklets, listed below, which are available for free download. The courses are often referred to as ‘short courses’. Approval to deliver ‘short course’ training must be sought from the MCA.
Procedures for approval
Applications for approval of all short training courses must be directed to the MCA Marine office nearest to the centre that is seeking approval. Approval must be sought for each specific training programme that is to be offered. The list of MCA Marine offices can be found at http://www.mcga.gov.uk/c4mca/mcga07-home/aboutus/contact07/marineoffices.htm
