Entry Requirements
All entrants must be in good health and pass a statutory medical examination before
being employed at sea. A good standard of eyesight is also required for prospective deck
(navigation) personnel. You will need to be sponsored by a shipping company or training
provider.
For Officer Cadet Training you can enter with at least 4 good GCSEs or SCEs in English,
Mathematics, Physics or a Combined Science; or with A levels or Scottish Highers; or with
an Intermediate GNVQ or equivalent.
For Undergraduate entry you will need to meet the admission requirements of the
universities/colleges offering the degree courses.
For Graduate entry, you will need to have a science-based degree.
British seafaring skills are highly regarded, and a significant proportion of senior
British officers are employed by foreign shipping companies.
The opportunities for a career in the Shipping Industry have never been better.
